De Prins Claus Conservatorium Big Band bestaat uit studenten van de opleidingen bachelor en master Jazz. Het internationale karakter van het conservatorium vind je terug in de samenstelling van de band: studenten uit alle werelddelen spelen gedurende hun studie een periode in dit swingende ensemble. De Big Band repeteert wekelijks onder leiding van docent en trompettist Kurt Weiss. Weiss speelde onder andere met de orkesten van Ray Charles, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller en Jimmy Dorsey.

De Big Band treedt regelmatig op, niet alleen tijdens projecten van het conservatorium, maar ook op reguliere concertpodia en tijdens festivals. Het Prins Claus Conservatorium, onderdeel van de Hanze, realiseert toekomstmuziek door muziekprofessionals op te leiden die zich veelzijdig kunnen bewegen in de beroepspraktijk en nieuwsgierig zijn naar de wereld om zich heen. Dat doet het conservatorium in een creatieve en muzikale leergemeenschap in verbinding met het werkveld.

The Prince Claus Conservatoire Big Band is made up of students from the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Jazz. The conservatoire’s international character is reflected in the band’s line-up: students from all corners of the globe spend a period of their studies playing in this swinging ensemble. The Big Band rehearses weekly under the direction of lecturer and trumpeter Kurt Weiss. Weiss has played with the orchestras of Ray Charles, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey, amongst others.

The Big Band performs regularly, not only during conservatoire projects, but also at regular concert venues and during festivals. The Prince Claus Conservatoire, part of Hanze University, shapes the future of music by training music professionals who are versatile in their professional practice and curious about the world around them.
